Excerpt from Book-Song: An Anthology of Poems of Books and Bookmen From smooth Authors
Richard Le Gallienne.
Five years in the past a promise calmly made
Is claimed herein as with a doubting pen
I devote this sheaf of verse which then
You bade nu assemble. yet, part afraid,
Dallied, and loitered, and lengthy whereas delayed;
Now Time has introduced new idols to our ken,
Anthologies not allure as when
A lustrum due to the fact that this garnering you bade.
The English rose of tune isn't really much less sweet;
The petals borne from England oversea
Delight us nonetheless; yet pulses slower beat
To books than lifestyles; that quantity which to me,
Though torn and dog-eared, unfortunately incomplete,
Holds one vibrant bankruptcy headed "Memory."
